Caster & Wheel Finder

Compute the per-caster load rating your cart or rack actually needs, then match against 574 casters and wheels by capacity, wheel diameter and tread material. We divide total weight by n − 1 casters — the standard allowance for one wheel unloaded on uneven floors.

How to specify a caster

  1. Capacity: total weight (equipment + heaviest load) divided by the caster count minus one — floors are never perfectly flat, and one caster routinely carries no load.
  2. Wheel diameter: bigger rolls easier — every inch of diameter cuts push force and bridges floor cracks, thresholds and dock plate lips better. 6–8" is the workhorse range for manual carts; go 8"+ for towed loads.
  3. Tread material: polyurethane for most facility floors, rubber/TPR where noise matters, nylon or cast iron for maximum capacity, pneumatic outdoors.
  4. Durometer: harder treads (higher Shore rating) roll easier but transmit more shock; softer treads protect the load and floor.
